As much of the region appears to be experiencing a post-holiday spike in COVID-19 cases, some school districts are announcing a shift to remote learning.
New London Superintendent Cynthia Ritchie on Wednesday announced that schools would shift to remote learning through the end of the month. In a statement to families, she said that over the prior 12 hours the district was informed of a new wave of positive test results.
A total of 17 positive cases have been reported in the district from Monday evening through Wednesday morning. These cases spanned across all schools, Central Office and distance learners, Ritchie said. Central Office staff members are now working remotely as a result.

Outwintered ewes will need regular liver fluke treatment with the interval dictated by the disease risk on the fam. \ CJ Nash
Liver fluke: The advice from the Department’s liver fluke forecast recommends treating outwintered sheep that are likely to face a liver fluke challenge in November, January and April. Farms with a history of serious liver fluke burden will need to treat more regularly and possibly as often as every four to six weeks in the worst affected cases.
In such a scenario, a treatment programme should be put in place with your vet to ensure adequate cover is provided and the risk of resistance developing is minimised by careful product selection. At present, product choice should still focus on treating mature and at least immature fluke stages. Avoid using combination products unless there is an identified need for treatment. Healthy ewes do not require treatment for worms.

Salt reformulation programs can substantially improve health, but not Australia’s, study suggests
Government targets designed to lower the salt content of packaged foods will make little difference to the health of Australians, according to a new analysis published today.
George Institute researchers found that even if the voluntary targets were fully implemented, they would reduce the amount currently purchased by Australian households in the form of packaged foods by just 3.5 percent.
Lead author and Accredited Practising Dietitian from The George Institute Daisy Coyle said that high intakes of sodium, in the form of salt, were a key contributor to high blood pressure – a major cause of cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease.

An animal scientist wants more Australian sea lions tested for tuberculosis, after one of the creatures was found to have died from the disease on Kangaroo Island.
Key points:
The disease can be passed on to humans but only with very close contact
Scientists who wrote a paper on the discovery hope it prompts more research
The three-year-old juvenile sea lion was found dead on a beach at Kingscote in 2017, but the case was only reported in the Journal of Wildlife Diseases last week.
It’s one thing to read critiques of the lack of support for families with children who have complex needs, and another to witness the struggles they face.
For the parents of children with complex needs, the pandemic didn’t highlight how poorly their kids are supported by the B.C. government. They already knew.

A recent report from the Office of the Representative for Children and Youth called out the Children and Family Development Ministry for “the ongoing and deeply unsettling story of a piecemeal system that has never provided adequate and equitable support” for kids with complex needs due to cognitive, developmental or physical disabilities.
